This is the story of my neighborhood!

This door was built from Parisian stone, it is several centuries old.  It is integrated with the other buildings on the street, all of them much more recently built in the 1970s of modern materials. This door is lost in the middle of a modern neighborhood. Most importantly, she is still there! Surely someone wanted to preserve it. The head of a person is sculpted on it and there are some posters glued upon it, perhaps by some residents of the neighborhood. I ask myself if the people of the neighborhood still notice it, as I have, as I go walking by…

C’est l’Histoire de mon quartier !

Cette porte a été construite en pierre de Paris, il y a plusieurs siècles.

Elle est intégrée aux autres bâtiments de la rue, tous beaucoup plus récents, construits dans les années 70, en matériaux modernes.

Elle est perdue au milieu d’un quartier moderne. Pourtant, elle existe encore ! Quelqu’un a sans doute voulu la conserver.

Une tête de personnage y est sculptée en relief et des habitants, peut-être du quartier, y ont collé des affiches.

Je me demande si les gens du quartier la remarquent encore, comme moi je l’ai fait, lorsque je m’y suis promené…

Ici, la culture a envahi la rue !

Dans mon quartier, il n’y a pas assez de musées. Il n’y a pas assez de culture quelle qu’elle soit, pour enrichir et nourrir les enfants et les adultes.

Cela nous aiderait à grandir et à préparer notre avenir.

Si un musée était construit, je voudrais qu’il y ait des œuvres comme le Colosse de Rhodes, le temple d’Artémis à Ephèse, les grandes pyramides de Gizeh, le phare d’Alexandrie et la statue de Zeus à Olympie…

Here, the culture has invaded the street!

In my neighborhood, there are not enough museums. There is not enough culture, of whatever kind, to enrich and nourish the children and adults.

This could help us grow and help prepare for the future.

If a museum were built, I would like there to be works like the Colossus of Rhodes, the temple of Artemis at Ephese, the great pyramids of Giza(Gizeh), the

Lighthouse of Alexandria and the statue of Zeus at Olympus …

Je suis tombé nez à nez sur cette moto, au beau milieu de mon quartier.

J’adore les motos ! J’aime la vitesse, les sensations et surtout braver le danger et les risques !

Depuis que je suis petit, elles me fascinent…

Je sais, elles polluent peut-être la ville, mais comme ça doit être bien de se balader sur cette machine !

I came face-to-face (nez à nez) with this motorcycle, right in the middle of my neighborhood.

I love motorcycles! I love the speed, the feeling and most of all facing danger and the risks! Ever since I was a small child, they’ve fascinated me…

I know, they may be polluting the city, but it would be so good to ride out on this machine!

J’aime le foot !

J’ai choisi le ballon du « Paris Saint-Germain » parce que c’est mon club préféré et je le soutiens déjà depuis longtemps.

Je voudrais qu’il y ait un stade sur la place Saint Blaise, dans mon quartier : elle est assez grande pour y installer un terrain de foot. On pourrait y faire des matchs à 6 contre 6. Le terrain serait en revêtement synthétique. Il y aurait de grands grillages pour que les balles n’en sortent pas.

Il y en a déjà un dans un autre quartier, non loin d’ici, le quartier Mouraud, mais je voudrais qu’il y en ait aussi un dans le mien, à Saint Blaise.

I love soccer!

I chose the “Paris Saint-Germain” ball because it’s my favorite club and I’ve been a fan for a long time.

I wish there was a stadium in Saint Blaise in my neighborhood: there’s enough room there to install a soccer field. One could have games there of 6 against 6. The ground would be astroturf. There would be tall fences so the balls wouldn’t go out of the stadium.

There’s already a field in another district not far from here, the Mouraud district, but I’d like there to be one in my neighborhood, in Saint Blaise, as well.

Pedestrians in my city…

Often, it is difficult to be a pedestrian in the city !

Here, as on other pedestrian crossings, the neighborhood residents risk their lives, forced to zig-zag through the continuous flow of cars.

It would probably be good to reduce the number of cars, to replace them by bicycles to limit accidents.

Les piétons dans ma ville…

Souvent, il est difficile d’être un piéton dans la ville !

Ici, comme sur d’autres passages pour piéton, les habitants du quartier risquent leur vie, contraints de se faufiler entre le flot incessant des voitures !

Il faudrait sans doute réduire le nombre de voitures, les remplacer par des vélos, afin de limiter les accidents.

Tomorrow…

These two photographs, that must be viewed together, show two Parisian modes of transportation : the metro of the Porte de Montreuil, created two centuries ago, and the XXIst century tramway, that will be completed in 2012.

Those two means of transportation are environmentally-friendly, they do not pollute.

It shows that France and Paris, its capital, are engaged in the fight against global warming.

Ces deux photographies, qui doivent absolument figurer ensemble, montrent deux moyens de transport parisien : le métropolitain de la Porte de Montreuil, crée il y a deux siècles, et le tramway du XXI^e siècle, qui sera achevé dans le quartier en 2012.

Ces deux moyens de transport sont écologiques, ils ne polluent pas.

Ça montre que la France et Paris, sa capitale, s’impliquent dans la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique.

Housing in the city…

I prefer the houses  rather than the towers that have been built in my neighborhood.

They leave more space for people who live there and are more pleasant to look at.

It is kind of rare to see this kind of house in Paris ; in general, one doesn’t find the open space to build them.

It’s true that if we only built these kinds of houses in Paris, there would not be enough space to house everybody.

But, even so, I like this house – it pleases me !

L’habitat dans la ville…

Je préfère les maisons de quartier aux tours qui ont été construites dans mon quartier.

Elles laissent plus d’espace aux gens qui y vivent et sont plus agréables à regarder.

C’est plutôt rare d’apercevoir une telle maison dans Paris, en général, on ne trouve plus beaucoup de terrains pour en construire.

Il est vrai que si l’on ne construisait que des maisons à Paris, il n’y aurait pas assez de place pour loger tous ses habitants.

Mais j’aime quand même cette maison, elle me plaît !

An electric engine, or a fossile-fuel engine ?

In those two photographs, that must be seen together, you can see the gas engines of the motorcycles.

I wasn’t able to photograph an electric engine, because I could not find one !

The fossile-fuel engine pollutes and is not good for the planet, whereas the electrical motor is ecologically sound and good for the planet.

In France, there are electric stations to charge up cars and motorcycles. There should be more of thèse to entice people to buy electric vehicles.

Un moteur électrique ou un moteur à essence ?

Sur ces deux photographies, qui doivent figurer ensemble, on voit bien le moteur à essence des motos.

Je n’ai pas pu photographier de moteur électrique parce que je n’en ai pas trouvé !

Le moteur à essence pollue et ça n’est pas bon pour la planète alors que le moteur électrique est écologique, c’est bon pour la planète.

En France, il y a peu de stations électriques pour recharger les voitures et les motos. Il faudrait en créer davantage pour inciter les gens à acheter des véhicules électriques.

This is a huge tower, located not far from my school, in the Saint Blaise neighborhood.

Next to the other buildings and small houses of the neighborhood, this tower is enormous ! Photographed like this, it seems to be « scraping » the sky ! The New Yorkers will understand what I am saying…

This is a building that I see every day on my way to school.

I love the towers because they are impressive (to look at), and you don’t often see this kind of thing in Paris, except maybe as I have been told, in the neighborhood la Defense, the business area of the city.

From this tower, there must be an unobstructed view of Paris and its surroundings….

C’est une tour immense, située non loin de mon collège, dans le quartier Saint Blaise.

À côté des autres bâtiments, immeubles et petites maisons du quartier, cette tour est gigantesque !  Photographiée comme ça, elle paraît gratter le ciel ! Les New Yorkais me comprendront…

C’est un bâtiment que je vois tous les jours en allant à l’école.

J’aime les tours car c’est impressionnant et l’on n’en trouve pas souvent dans Paris, sauf peut-être m’a- t’on-dit, au quartier de la Défense, le quartier des affaires à Paris.

De cette tour, on doit avoir une vue imprenable sur Paris et ses environs…
